The IRS does have a habit of making the tax codes a lot harder to understand that they should be. However, there is a silver lining. They try to give you a fair break with the deductions they offer. Go through the list. Take advantage of as many deductions as you can. You never know when they will give you money back. The IRS is not entirely heartless, contrary to popular belief. They are not always out to get you.

Yes, you can file for free. Did you earn less than $60,000 last year? The IRS tries to make it as easy as possible. There are tax sites and software programs you can use to file for free. Pick the one that works best for you. You can always choose a tax company to file for you, but they expect a big cut. They do not do that for free. That is why filing online is the better option.
